Three-Minute Success Stories

Guidelines and Application for Napa 2008

*APPLICATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 4*

The Three-Minute Success Stories are a tradition stretching back to the 3rd Annual California Preservation Conference in 1978. While humor is highly encouraged, the program is also an excellent opportunity for preservationists to showcase local successes before a statewide audience. This event will be held on April 24 in 2008 at The Culinary Institute of America.

Presentation Guidelines

The selection process for Three-Minute Success Stories is competitive and it is possible that not every applicant will be accepted. That said, please feel free to submit more than one application.

    • Presentations are limited to three minutes.
This is the name of the game. Your story must be suitable for a limited time frame. Prepare a script and practice it in advance. Props, costumes and PowerPoint presentations are highly encouraged!
    • Projects by non-profit organizations and local governments will receive first consideration. Professionals (architects, developers, etc.) may make presentations, but no self-advertising is allowed or you may be hissed off the stage!
    • If the story involves an income-producing project, the project should be certified or grant-supported by the State Office of Historic Preservation, or should clearly be a project that conforms to the Secretary of Interior's Standards.
    • Successes are preferred, but "almost successful" projects that offer a lesson will also be considered--especially if they're entertaining and educational.
    • If you are using a PowerPoint presentation, please use only PC formatted discs. It's not that we don't like Apple, we just want to keep it simple.
    • Please submit applications as early as possible. Call the California Preservation Foundation at 415.495.0349 with questions about submittal deadlines.
