California Preservation Foundation hosted a special member's only event at the Heath Ceramics Factory in Sausalito.
Heath Ceramics is one of the few remaining mid-century American potteries still in existence today, producing original handcrafted tableware and architectural tile since 1948. On the guided tour, participants learned about the entire pottery production process, from clay-making to firing. The tour provided opportunity for discussion and interaction with tile design and installation experts. Afterwards, lunch was enjoyed at the nearby restaurant, Anchorage 5, a diner considered a local gem.

Richard Neutra designed this house for the Kaufmann family in 1946. The house is a prime example of modern architecture, and the above image, by renowned photographer Julius Shulman, is a classic. The Kaufmann house was meticulously restored by the architectural firm Marmol and Radziner of Santa Monica, California in the mid 1990s.
