Senior Historic Preservation Specialist

Position Description

The 2020 pandemic inspired many people to seek new jobs where they could turn their passion projects into a full-time career. Here at ICF we work on passion projects all the time, from helping convert America to clean energy such as solar and offshore wind to helping ensure California’s water supply reliability for the next century. In Northern California some of our local passion projects include working with the Port of San Francisco to address the effects of sea level rise on the Embarcadero, developing evaluation contexts for PG&E’s historic-era electrical infrastructure, or working with BART to reimagine what transit looks like across the entire Bay Area. One thing is for sure, being part of ICF’s cultural resources team is #neverboring.

ICF is currently seeking a Senior Historic Preservation Specialist to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment on complex environmental compliance projects. This position can be fully or partially remote, and will be based out of our San Francisco, CA or Sacramento, CA office depending on the location of the ideal candidate. The senior HP specialist will work closely with our practice leaders to identify areas of growth for the team, as well as leading project work and directing and mentoring mid-level and junior architectural history team members.

What You Will Do

Provide technical leadership in architectural history, including technical approach development, task delegation, and QA/QC for technical reports or documents prepared in collaboration with junior staff.

Evaluate resources for National Register of Historic Places or California Register of Historical Resources eligibility, develop resource management recommendations, assess project effects on resources, and provide high level support to address complex management challenges that require advanced technical or regulatory knowledge.

Manage projects related to environmental compliance and cultural resource management, including client contact, task order management, budget control, invoicing, schedule, personnel allocation/planning, and subcontractor involvement.

Collaborate in integrated teams with planners, archaeologists, ecologists, and other environmental specialists to deliver projects for a range of clients including the energy, transportation, water, and local planning market sectors.

Integrate with clients to achieve long-term objectives and efficiencies, from programmatic strategies and feasibility studies through implementation, operations, and maintenance.

What You Will Need to Have

Master’s degree in Architectural History or related field.

Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in cultural resources management.

Advanced knowledge of CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 regulatory requirements.

A background working with private sector and public sector clients, as well as regulatory agencies.

Familiarity with the history and architectural history of California; knowledge of Washington, Oregon, and other regions of the United States is a plus.

Leadership and mentoring skills to contribute to a progressive work environment for employee development and career fulfillment.

A desire to excel and passion for rewarding work on complex environmental challenges in a team environment.
