From Modern to Postmodern: A Context for Postmodern L.A.

Postmodernism was one of several trends influencing Southern California architecture from the mid-1970s through the early 1990s as the field shifted away from Modernism. This session starts to explore some of the threads leading up to the Postmodern period in Los Angeles. Case studies will be used to illustrate the style, including Charles Moore and Frank Gehry’s local projects, the Bonaventure Hotel, late vernacular examples, and others.
