George Smart HAIA is founder and CEO of USModernist®, the world's largest nonprofit educational archive dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and promotion of Modernist residential design. A passionate advocate for Modernism, George has been one of the nation's leaders in raising awareness preserving this important architectural movement. He is a frequent speaker to architecture, design, preservation, real estate, and museum groups. Previously, he worked for 30 years as a management consultant with clients such as Boeing, Microsoft, Cisco, Harvard Business School, and UNC-Chapel Hill. He is one of the few to be bestowed an Honorary AIA by the American Institute of Architects.

They raise awareness about Modernist preservation and preserve the legacy of exceptional design for future generations. USModernist.org connects people with their past or their future dream homes and preserves histories for future generations. Started as Triangle Modernist Houses in 2007 — and becoming a nonprofit 501C3 in 2009 — by 2013 the project expanded statewide to become NCModernist®. In 2015, they launched USModernist® which hosts national and international tours; the largest open digital archive of Modernist houses and architects in America; an architecture magazine library and the USModernist Radio podcast.
