From Bankruptcy to Beacon: Revitalizing Downtown Through the Enterprise Building

Thursday, April 2nd | 12pm-1pm Pacific

Downtown San Bernardino has experienced dramatic cycles of growth, change, and reinvention over the past century. At the center of that story stands the Enterprise Building—a 1920s landmark that reflects both the city’s early commercial prosperity and its ongoing efforts to shape a new future.

This engaging webinar explores the layered history of the Enterprise Building, including its connections to the region’s financial and civic development, with ties to early institutions that would eventually become Bank of America. Drawing from archival research, historic photographs, and a growing collection of salvaged artifacts from long-lost downtown buildings, the program will examine how preservation can illuminate the past while informing contemporary revitalization efforts.

Beyond its architectural significance, the Enterprise Building offers a case study in how historic rehabilitation can catalyze broader community impact. Today, the restored building functions as an events venue, small business incubator, educational space, and gathering place—welcoming visitors from across the region. Since opening to the public in 2017, the building has hosted more than 100,000 visitors, underscoring its growing role as a catalyst for renewed activity in the urban core.

Blending history, preservation, and community-building, this program provides an inspiring look at how investment in a single historic resource can help reshape both place and perception.
