About Angelus Funeral Home/Paul R. Williams Family Apartments
The rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the Angelus Funeral Home is a creative solution for a challenging building type. This project provides much-needed affordable housing in Los Angeles while preserving an important work by Paul R. Williams as an integral part of the city’s African American community. The Paul R. Williams Apartments is a 41-unit development consisting of the rehabilitation of the historic Angelus Funeral Home into management offices, seven living units and community spaces, along with construction of an additional 34 large family units in two adjacent buildings, both designed to be compatible with the historic Paul Williams-designed funeral home. The project made use of the Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credit, requiring all work to meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
