Decarbonizing Through Reuse: Preservation’s Role in the 2030 Challenge and Beyond
A Training Program covering Building Performance & Preservation
Join CPF for a two-part webinar focusing on the critical role building preservation and adaptive reuse play in the decarbonization of our built environment.
The first session will focus on the big picture – why decarbonization matters for historic preservation and how preservation and building reuse contribute to climate mitigation. It will describe the goals of the Architecture 2030 Commitment and how existing and historic buildings fit into the 2030 Challenge of reaching carbon neutrality. Lastly, it will provide an overview of common carbon assessment and accounting tools available for building rehabilitation projects.
The second session will focus on the practical implementation of the various carbon tools in historic rehabilitation projects and the practical challenges in applying carbon metrics to rehabilitation work. Presenters will also discuss emerging policies and incentives affecting adaptive reuse, the importance of bringing preservation into the mainstream climate conversation, and the co-benefits that are achieved when cultural heritage and climate action are brought together.
