CHBC Part 2: Accessibility and Historic Buildings

The California Historical Building Code (CHBC) is an important tool for the preservation of historic buildings, structures and sites in California.  Use of the CHBC protects the historic fabric and features of a building by providing alternative regulations to meet the mandates for fire and life safety, seismic, universal access and site access requirements. This 4-part webinar series on the California Historical Building Code will focus on the major aspects of the CHBC will illustrate and explain the use of the code through the use of case studies presented by leading design professionals. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session after each module and will receive a complimentary booklet on the use and application of the California Historical Building Code.

Through the use of case studies, attendees will see examples of how alternative design solutions and technologies were used successfully in rehabilitation projects and will learn how to:

• Identify the CHBC provisions pertaining to --
• Change in use and the life-safety, accessibility and site requirements associated with new uses in historic buildings
• Universal access and the process for applying the alternatives in the CHBC
• Landscape features, including site access, emergency vehicle access, fire safety and historic vegetation
• How to identify performance objectives and develop alternate solutions.
