Director of Public Affairs

Position Description


OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS

Salary: $145,000- $165,000

  • Bonus opportunities align with experience and responsibilities. Annual cost of living increases are discretionary, based on company performance and economic conditions, and are calculated with the CPI-U (Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers) as a reference point.

Benefits:

  • Health Insurance: Employer-sponsored medical coverage, with the employer covering 50% of the premiums for the employee. Spouse and family coverage are available at the employee’s expense.
  • Retirement: SIMPLE IRA plan with a company match up to the maximum allowed by the IRS (currently 3% of annual compensation).
  • Paid Time Off: Minimum of two weeks (10 days) of paid vacation per year, accrued evenly over 24 pay periods. Sick leave accrues at a rate of 3.5 hours per pay period, with a maximum accrual cap of 84 hours. 11 paid company holidays and one paid floating holiday per year.
  • Career Development: Continued learning and tuition reimbursement or other support for eligible expenses related to professional development or skill acquisition.

Remote Work: Position is 100% remote, but candidates must live in the San Francisco Bay Area – Marin County preferred.

POSITION OVERVIEW

efund LLC seeks a Director of Public Affairs to expand and lead its advocacy and philanthropic strategies across historic preservation, environmental sustainability, and community-driven planning. With growing threats to California’s natural and cultural resources, efund is positioned to serve as a powerful voice in defense of lasting protections.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of land use politics and advocacy, and a demonstrated ability to build durable coalitions and execute high impact campaigns. This is a mission-oriented leadership role suited for someone who thrives at the intersection of policy, philanthropy, and community action.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports directly to the principal(s) of efund LLC and works in collaboration with local nonprofit and political entities, including Save Our Sausalito.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead initiatives to advance historic preservation, environmental sustainability, and responsible development through advocacy, education, and policy influence.
  • Build and manage coalitions of local and state stakeholders—activists, civic leaders, elected officials, organizations, and experts—to support campaigns that preserve cultural heritage and protect vulnerable environments.
  • Represent efund at Save Our Sausalito, shaping campaigns, partnerships, and communications that uphold the city’s preservation and environmental standards.
  • Design and implement targeted, issue-based campaigns using digital organizing, communications strategies, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Represent efund at public meetings, in the media, and at civic forums.
  • Lead fundraising efforts for advocacy campaigns and aligned candidates, including major donor engagement, grant writing, and event coordination.
  • Collaborate with local and state policymakers to shape outcomes aligned with preservation and sustainability goals.
  • Manage campaign teams, vendors, and part-time contributors to deliver measurable results.
  • Support other philanthropic and advocacy initiatives across the family office portfolio.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and media representatives.
  • Track and report campaign performance, adjusting strategies to maximize impact.

COMPETENCIES

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Urban Studies, Environmental Science, History, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Five plus years of experience in advocacy, public affairs, or nonprofit campaign leadership, ideally in preservation, environmental protection, or urban planning.
  • Demonstrated success in coalition-building, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with California’s land-use issues, state housing policy, and development politics.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proven track record in fundraising and campaign execution.
  • Experience coalescing groups.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with campaign and digital organizing tools (e.g., Action Network, social media platforms).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Passion for the mission of Save Our Sausalito and historic preservation.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Sausalito’s Downtown Historic District and surrounding environmental context.
  • Experience working within a family office or mission-aligned investment environment.
  • Lobbying experience.
