Restoration Architect

Position Description


The reporting location for this position is Office of Historic Preservation in Sacramento, CA. This position will work under the general supervision of the Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer.

The Restoration Architect shall be responsible for assisting in the state-wide review of the federal Historic Tax Incentives Program and the State Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program. The incumbent also provides professional architectural support for diverse federal and state mandated programs. The incumbent must have detailed knowledge for the application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the treatment of Historic Properties, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), and the CHBC (California Historical Building Code), and have possession of a valid certificate of registration as an architect issued by the California State Board of Architectural Examiners or the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. and Education.


Company/Organization Description


The California State Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) is responsible for administering federally and state mandated historic preservation programs to further the identification, evaluation, registration and protection of California’s irreplaceable archaeological and historical resources under the direction of the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), a gubernatorial appointee, and the State Historical Resources Commission.

OHP’s responsibilities include:

  • Identifying, evaluating, and registering historic properties;
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulatory obligations;
  • Encouraging the adoption of economic incentives programs designed to benefit property owners;
  • Encouraging economic revitalization by promoting a historic preservation ethic through preservation education and public awareness and, most
