California Architecture: One State, Divisible or Indivisible

We tend to see Northern California architecture and Southern California architecture as two distinct things. But are they? A closer look at twentieth century trends, innovations, and architects shows a much more complex story. From the growth of modern ideas, to the contributions of immigrants from the East and Europe, to the explosive suburbanization of mid-century, to the ways each half of the state identifies itself, this talk will explore what makes California architecture Californian.
