About Stanley Burke’s
The adaptive reuse project continues the use of the building as a restaurant. 1958 was defined as the period of significance and later additions of a banquet room, lounge, and dining room extension were removed. he removal of the additions allowed for the exposure and restoration of the spider legs and a clerestory window. The lava stone walls were mapped, deconstructed, and reconstructed in same manner as originally designed. Materials testing was conducted to restore the colors and materials to the original as closely as possible. All of this work was carefully monitored and documented throughout the construction process. An interactive display highlighting the history of Stanley Burke the man, the history of the building, and details, such as the decorative tile, are prominently on display in the dinning room.
Community Importance
This project enhances historic preservation in LA County as a successful model of adaptive reuse. Great care was given to honor the original design, materials, and color palette but yet keep the restaurant as a viable commercial enterprise.
