About Glenn County Courthouse

The Glenn County Courthouse project includes the rehabilitation and seismic strengthening of the historic courthouse (15,800 SF; 1894), removal of several small one-story additions, and construction of a contemporary 26,000 SF addition. The project increased the number of courtrooms from one to three and includes judges’ chambers, clerical spaces, jury assembly areas, and other relevant public support spaces.

The historic two-story courthouse, built of masonry with wood floor and roof framing, was in good condition despite the removal of its cupola in the 1950s. Existing MEP systems were replaced; security was upgraded, and circulation was improved to seamlessly connect the historic and new buildings. The historic building was painted in a color scheme similar to the original, and the addition, sited behind the original building, is deferential to the historic building. Furnishings and interior finishes balance the aesthetics of the new and old.

The project achieved LEED Gold certification.

Community Importance

Prior to completion of this capital project, the Superior Court of Glenn County operated from three facilities in two cities-the state-owned Historic Courthouse, a leased Self-Help Center facility in the city of Willows and the county-owned Orland Branch Courthouse in the city of Orland.

The centralized courthouse is more efficient, effective and secure: court operations are consolidated, security and functionality improved, operational efficiency increased, and the court’s ability to serve the public enhanced.

The State of California owned Glenn County Court hears a full complement of case types including, criminal, civil, and family law, thereby providing a full range of court service to Glenn County residents.
