The California Preservation Foundation has access to a vast network of supporters, activists, and professionals from across California and around the country who we keep informed through regular updates, newsletters, and advocacy alerts. We rely on our partners and members throughout the state to provide us with news and notices of what is happening in their back yards. Below is our policy on what and how we will publish news and updates.
General Updates and Information
We regularly publish general information about historic preservation and individual historic sites in our monthly newsletter and/or on our social media pages. Publication is limited to availability and appropriateness, and information may be withheld from publication for any of the following reasons:
- Insufficient information supplied
- Unclear or insufficient publication or image permissions
- Irrelevant or out-of-date information
- Concerns about the merits or accuracy of the information
Advocacy Alerts or Action Requests
Whenever we ask our members to take action, we need to ensure that we are fully informed and prepared to take a position. To be considered for publication, advocacy alerts and action requests must include:
- A clear summary of the problem and the action requested
- An explanation of what is at stake and the proposed solution
- Endorsement from a local preservation organization and/or contact information for a local organization
- A summary of any opposition to the requested action
All requests for action are subject to potential review by CPF’s Advocacy Committee.
Advertisements, Sales, or Fundraisers
In order to publish any information that includes a request of funds or services, the request must:
- Be in accordance with our mission
- Not conflict with CPF programs, fundraisers, or other requests
- Be directly related to a historic place, cultural artifact, or other heritage issue
- Be affiliated with or endorsed by a local preservation organization
All requests for publication are subject to potential review by CPF’s Communications Committee and Board of Trustees. To be considered for publication, email Andrew Shaffer at andrew@californiapreservation.org.
